Project Goal
The goal of this project was to analyze the Atlanta Hawks as an emerging NBA team and evaluate potential roster and trade needs.
I aimed to simulate a real-world front office workflow by completing a full scouting report under a one-week deadline.
Project Execution
Built a full scouting report analyzing team structure, weaknesses, and potential trade targets
Transitioned data workflow from Excel to Python for cleaning, merging, and analysis
Designed and implemented advanced visualizations using Python (matplotlib) to improve clarity of insights
Developed player and team evaluation frameworks based on roster construction needs and statistical profiling
Organized and completed the full report under a self-imposed deadline to simulate professional constraints
Skills Developed
End-to-end basketball analytics workflow using Python (data cleaning, merging, analysis)
Advanced data visualization using matplotlib to communicate insights clearly SQL-based querying and dataset manipulation for player evaluation
Translating statistical analysis into actionable basketball insights
Structuring and delivering full scouting reports under time constraints
Improving communication of analytical reasoning (“show, don’t tell”)
Key Takeaways / Improvements for Next Report
Improve balance in SQL filtering to avoid over-weighting specific metrics (e.g., free throw emphasis early in analysis)
Broaden evaluation frameworks beyond single-need team analysis
Explore additional methods for identifying team weaknesses beyond league-relative comparisons
Continue improving clarity and readability without reducing analytical depth
